Typically, there exists a wide variety of different types of resins under the synthetic category, for instance, epoxy (the most sought after), acrylic, polyurethane, polyaspartic, polyurea, methacrylate, and other types of resins.


Many of the synthetic resins fall under the part 1 category. This category of resins can be cured when exposed to air due to the oxidation caused by the moisture present. Resins of the part 2 category can be cured when mixed with a curing agent.


Different types of resins have varying properties in terms of physicality, mechanics, and durability.


PMMA :-


Polymethyl Methacrylate is a very common form of synthetic resin used in epoxy flooring. It is commonly known in the industry as “acrylic glass”. This resin is best for creating common products such as Plexiglas, Perspex, and even Lucite.


PMMA is an easy-to-distinguish type of flooring resin due to its fast application and hardening times. It can be applied even in temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius. Since one of the primary characteristics of this resin is fast curing, its application on the floor can be completed throughout the weekend. This aspect of PMMA is highly beneficial for reducing downtime at industrial installations.


This type of thermoplastic resin is extremely customizable and offers a high level of precision during the application process. Contractors opt for PMMA often, whenever they require high chemical resistance or insulation against electrical charge. Given the interlayered structure of PMMA’s chemical bonds, it is easier to upgrade. Compared to Polymethyl, other types of resin may require more time to repair and replace. For this reason, PMMA is often priced higher than other resin solutions.


It is known to last longer than what is considered standard. However, this can also mean it takes more time to maintain it.


Polyurethane :


Polyurethane resin types are an improvement when it comes to resistance. Similar to the features of PMMA, PU is also very tough in terms of abrasion and chemical resistance. They are a good investment if someone wants their resin flooring to last long. PU resin is quite an attractive choice as it is possible to achieve various finishes and different decorative options.


There are no issues with exposing the material to high temperatures or direct heat as PU is highly resistant to impact and rising temperatures. It is a fantastic durable flooring option for places prone to heat-related issues such as restaurants and factories.


One thing that contractors or builders need to consider is the time it takes to install PU resin flooring. It can take even longer to install than PMMA resin. For this reason, these are classified as thermoset resins and they involve more downtime whenever repairs are necessary.


Epoxy :


This is perhaps the most widely and popularly used flooring resin in industrial complexes. It is yet another thermostat resin material that provides high flooring performance and durability. What sets it apart from other resin flooring types is that also offers optimum electrical conductivity which can be essential in certain applications.


Epoxy resin is available in a wide range of finishes and is well-known for its various advantages. It is impervious and is also quite efficient in bonding with concrete. It effectively protects the underlying concrete from damage due to impact, abrasion, water, soil expansion, or chemical exposure.


However, the only crucial downside of epoxy flooring is its process of repair. When epoxy flooring is damaged, it has to be completely replaced. Epoxy also has the longest cure timing than the other resins hence repairs come at an expensive price.
